Emergency Medical Services

Fire Personnel:

Westphalia Fire Protection District provides emergency medical services to members and non-members within it's district boundaries. All firefighters are trained in adult and child CPR, and are trained in the use of the automatic external defibrillator (AED). The district has 2 EMT-B (Basic) and 1 EMT-P (Paramedic).

Apparatus:

Rescue-Pumper 4131 responds to motor vehicle injury-accidents involving extrication or specialized rescue may be needed. Rescue 4131 is equipped for fire suppression, rescue, and EMS. It is equipped with much of the same equipment as an advanced life support ambulance. This equipment includes oxygen, portable suction, a cardiac monitor with pacing/ defibrillation capabilities, an AED, and emergency medications for children and adults. 4132 serves as the primary unit that responds to medical emergencies.  Our goal is to provide EMS to our patrons as soon as possible, prior to an ambulance arriving. The district enjoys a good working relationship with COMM-unity, Maries-Osage, and Osage Ambulance Districts. Below are websites to those respected entities. www.osageamb.com

What you can do to help us:
Many people never plan to "be a patient". What can you as an individual do to help our fire and EMS responders? First, make sure your house is CLEARLY marked with your address; 4 inch numbers (reflective are very helpful especially if on a contrasting background).
Secondly, make a list of the medication and the dosage, along with any allergies to medications. Carry a copy with you, and have a copy in your home, let other know where these lists are in the case you are unable to communicate with the responders. A medical alert bracelet for chronic health problems such as heart, lung or diabetes is also very helpful.
Learning CPR is a very valuable tool. On average, it takes 3-4 minutes for help to arrive for anyone calling 911. In that time, in cardiopulmonary arrest,  heart and brain cells start to die. That is why family, bystanders, friends are so important in starting, and continuing CPR until firefighters and EMS arrive. CPR is a skill anyone can learn.

                                                                                    Landing Zones :
Westphalia Fire Protection District also has 2 designated landing zones for air ambulance evacuation for patients to trauma, stroke, or burn centers. These landing zones are at Fire Station 1, 1926 Highway 63 South, and at the 700 block of Highway 63, at the Knight's of Columbus soccer fields. If you see a helicopter preparing to land, or take off, DO NOT approach the helicopter or enter the landing zone. This endangers your life and the lives of emergency responders.
